It was surrounded by bevelled mirrors, tapestries, paintings and two light-toned stairs that joined on reaching the first floor and formed a perfect circle. Two marble sculptures on discreet pedestals of the same material or, at least, of the same color as the railing, at the outer ends of each stairway, completed the scene.»
