Synopsis
La hija Ausente
New York City, 2018.
Kiara wraps up her nursing duties after a demanding shift at a hospital adjacent to Central Park. However, her departure is unexpectedly halted by the arrival of Stella—an elderly woman in distress, seeking medical aid for her injuries.
Kiara immediately feels connected to her. As the story unfolds, it becomes evident that Stella is a prominent fine art collector. Amid her stay in the hospital, Stella entrusts Kiara with the revelation of her captivating and glamorous life story.
She tells her about her origins in Slovenia, her arrival in New York, and how she has built her empire. Kiara also discovers that, despite her fortune, Stella hides a great sadness. The anguish emanates from the loss of her son and the inexplicable disappearance of her daughter. After countless attempts to locate her estranged child, Stella decides to send Kiara to Europe, to her hometown, to the place where her daughter was born at the end of World War II.
Haunted by uncertainties in her career path and her evolving relationship with Albert—an ambitious obstetrician—Kiara finds herself at a crossroads. Amid these uncertainties, Stella's proposition beckons, prompting Kiara to embrace the daring journey laid before her.
The narrative elegantly charts the transformative trajectory of Kiara's life as she immerses herself in an uncharted realm. Simultaneously, the text casts a retrospective lens on Stella's fruitful and extraordinary existence, tinged with the melancholy of her absent children.
The story keeps us entertained, alert and pending the outcome until the end. It is contemporary and the human emotions transmitted are greatly told. A story for those who like to travel with stories, discover new places and cultures, for lovers of romantic novels and those who are passionate about intrigue. It is original, it surrounds us from the beginning, and it keeps us glued to its pages.
